Decided to do a field trip with the kids and this time not to Disney!! Though we enjoy our visits to Mickey's home we do go to other places (smile). So today we went to the Daytona Museum of Arts and Science. It's an interesting place to go and on the first Tuesday of the month admission is free for this counties residents, so that gave even more incentive to head over there.
We went through the art exhibits that included a Cuban art and history area, fossils, bugs and weapons.

Some of the armor in the weapons and armory room |
An old drugstore counter and set up with old wooden Indian display pieces |
After this we spent the majority of our time in the Interactive Children's Museum. The girls had fun learning about a wide variety of subjects and trying out the various displays and equipment that give real hands on learning opportunities.
Lauren trying to see into the case as she uses the gloves to simulate what an astronaut feels when working in a space suit |
Hannah attempting to lift the gallon jug weighted to demonstrate the same weight with Jupiter's gravity - a bit heavy! |
The girl's using magnets to move metal filings |
Cameron finding his heart beat with the "pulse bar" |
Kevin working to put together the pieces shown in the display case for circuits to make a fan |
The fan in motion |
Lauren on the pulley seat designed to help you lift your weight |
Hannah successfully lifting herself |
Everyone moving the Velcro backed pieces to create a tube that would allow the ball to fall with gravity pulling it through the connected pieces |
Success as the ball falls from top to bottom!! |
This was probably their favorite |
The girls playing the light harp |
We then went over to the Root Museum that holds information about the Root Family whose fortune was made with their patented original bell shaped Coca Cola bottle. So included in this museum wing is their family information, personal train cars, the cars and race cars they were a part of and of course a Coca Cola bottle collection and history of the various changes made throughout the years.
After wandering around the various buildings and displays we walked part of the garden trail and then headed out for lunch at Applebee's. Fun and interesting family outing!!
Have a good day. - Lynda

Our day at the museum was worth the trip. The balloon ride looks like it would be fun and you'd have a great view, it's one of the first things you can spot as you drive up the freeway and know you're approaching Disney World when you spot the balloon!
